. Your bloom glowed on drying wings as I shed my nymph’s shell Such an eye you had for beauty; made even me look well Under your gaze, I lay breathing air as fire I crouched a first-day dragon, leaving shining lake and mire Not knowing how to fly without tearing sky asunder Every blade of grass, a green and towering wonder Your breath on my wings Dried their rainbow filaments Your body above me like god’s living embodiment Now I don’t remember, if I ever learned to soar Inside my mind, only silence roars . My own wings, I abhor . Please lake, open the door . Let me breathe fire . No more . . .
