I grew less fierce or friendly

If I were a bit more angelic

If I were a bit more observant

Would I learn the secrets of your heart

Would I learn how to make friends with your art

Love is where we choose to give it

Love is what we choose to make of it

Love is not

afraid of the dark

Love is sometimes

a whisper

not a shout.

Sometimes making friends is not

what love’s about.

Sometimes love’s a self-protective route.

Sometimes love’s a tiger leaping out

        1. Awesome, thanks so much. :)))) β€οΈπŸ™ I still can’t comment on your posts btw. The comment box gets outlined in red, with an exclamation mark, and this is the error message “Sorry – there was a problem posting your comment.” You might have accidentally blocked me somehow and/or it’s just another WP glitch. I had this with another blog-friend too, Nathi. Hers got fixed somehow. WP can be glitchy at times. :)) Anyhow, thanks again, and I hope you have a very lovely day. 🌻 πŸ™πŸ’• xoxoxo

          1. That has been happening to me too! Sometimes I find them in the spam folder. There are also a few people I follow who’s posts I don’t see until days later, even if I’m checking directly on under their profile. Eh, WP gremlins.

I see I did reply to your post though. πŸ˜… Anyway, Thank you so so so much for this award, I was truly honoured. πŸ˜πŸ’›πŸ™ŒπŸ™ Every award sincerely lights up my heart, even if I’m not great at posting them. p.s. WP lets me reply directly to the pingback you left, but refuses to show my reply here. So I copy it again above. Hope you will find it somehow. :)) Lots of love. ❀️❀️

p.p.s. I love that you again tagged this post. Because of that, last night I had a minor epiphany of why I always thought my spirit animal was a tiger. My mom used to call me “running deer.” My dad (whom I also adore/d) always subtly countered that by calling me “tiger.” He thereby perhaps planted that drive in me to fight back or attack. Very grateful to him, and to you now, for reminding me of that. You are the brightbomb. πŸ™πŸ₯°πŸ”†πŸ˜»

  4. This is a beautiful poem, soothing and deep at the same time. I liked the line ‘Would I learn how to make friends with your art’. To understand and to relate to another persons creative (sometimes beyond logic) side seems like a magical thing to do. Well written Lia!

  5. This bit Lia: Love is not

    afraid of the dark

    Love is sometimes

    a whisper

    not a shout

is such a true and powerful statement. I love how you write about love. I can still remember the lines, ‘May I rest within the crescent of your lines, so luminescent?’ from Lemon Lanterns and GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD! That was a good poem. I even took a screenshot. This is just πŸ‘ŒπŸ½πŸ’―πŸ˜πŸ˜

    1. Thank you so much John. I love the way you analyze it. Dark is not a bad thing, it’s just the twin of light. Both are necessary to exist, and we all contain some of each. Thank you!!

  6. Great poem. Love is a mysterious thing, but its meaning has been diluted I think to the point that there is no word for “pure love” of the original intent. People talk a lot about what is infatuation and not “*love”, or sex appeal and not *, or loving ice cream and favorite objects and things… the trance of a love affair that is a sex affair, or the spell of an admiration. Something is lost when the fierce love of a child is a not a thing allowed to spread and grow up into caring for the core of others. It is a mystery that the “secrets of the heart” are not in the heart, nor in the blood, nor even in one location in the brain; it’s in the blending of elements of compassion — the tiger’s hunting for flesh becoming the hunting for *love.

    1. What a thoughtful and beautiful comment. I hear you… yes, there is what I like to think of as the buddhisty or spiritual concept of true love, as in that we have for a child or that a child has for the universe, and then there is obsession, infatuation, lust, all that draining stuff. And you have exactly articulated what I meant by “secrets of the heart.” But the tiger in this case was meant to protect that which is sacred and selfless, not allowing it to be worn down and attacked by something along the lines of what some call “energy vampires” (which, to be fair, as adults perhaps we have inadvertently attracted to ourselves, via our own unconscious emissions of, or desire for, not-love — i.e. the craving to be desired). Thanks for your words. πŸ™πŸŒ·

    2. P.s. FYI – I think your gravatar blog link might need updating – I am not able to follow your blog in the WP Reader. (The current link leads to a suggested redirect.) xoxo

Edit: p.p.s. I have tested on my own blog a possible solution, in case it’s helpful – visit https://wordpress.com/me/account – Then change the field called “Web address” to be your current blog address e.g. “http://venusawriter.wordpress.com” (instead of “http://venuswriter.wordpress.com/” without the “a”) – for me this seems to work. Hope it helps in some way… please forgive me if not! :))
